Flower Of The Heart Mandalas

The pattern for the flower of the heart mandala is very simple... again, it can be drawn with compass or by overlaying a glass, plate ~ or anything round, one upon the next circle...
Before showing you the pattern, I would like to share a correspondence with one of my best friends, Kimberly Saward, formally of California, now a resident of England. Kimberly is currently the president of the International Labyrinth Society and has been researching and walking labyrinths with me from the start. She is about to leave for a labyrinth tour that she and her husband, labyrinth historian Jeff Saward of [Labyrinthos](http://www.labyrinthos.net/), are leading through Scotland...
She wrote yesterday...
_I've really wanted to accept your invitation to make mandalas. I went through my pencils, dug out my paper, even bought a new compass that would hold a white pencil. But couldn't decide if I really wanted to take all that up to Scotland in my limited baggage._
_Mandalas? I just don't draw them as well as you. And pushing a pencil takes more energy than I have. I'm taking a bit of knitting, but only a bit. And a crochet hook. A crochet hook? Yea, because I've been fascinated by granny squares lately. I've been looking at pictures and instructions, and have even crocheted a few in bed the last few nights, plugged into my iPod. Granny Squares??_
_I get it... Mandalas._
_Okay, message received!_
For you see... a mandala can be made from anything... crochet hook and thread, a collage of pictures, an arrangement of leaves or shells, anything your imagination finds to place into a pattern within a circle... And, most importantly... it is not about how good you are at doing something... but rather... how much fun are you having!!! Kimberly has since let me know that she did indeed draw a few flower of the heart mandalas after all!!!!

1- First draw a circle at the center of your paper...

2- Then place your compass point at the outer edge of the first circle and draw a second circle...

3- Place your compass point at the bottom of the interlocking circles and draw your third ring...

4- The continue around in a clockwise motion, placing the compass point at the next intersection for circle four...

5- and the next intersection for circle 5...

6- then circle six...

7- and finally... circle seven...

Then you begin to color...
from the inside out, or the outer edge inward,
which ever way your creative muse guides you...
and the magic appears...
