Winter To Spring
by Nydia Goode
Cold barren lifeless winter knows
The binding structure Nature holds
And from this place I yearn to see
The cycle change new life set free.
As though my yearning sends a call
I sense a change connecting all
A melting breeze of wind begins
The Beloved calls, the Voice within.
Arise my love the wind blows free
Arise my love and come with me
The waves break wild the waves break free
Their rhythm ceaseless endless be.
Come my love and you’ll walk free
Explore and learn and tender be
No longer hampered by the ties
That binds the secrets close the eyes.
Though moon seems cold in morning’s light
Yet hides it once illumined night
Be the colors misty gray
Give eyes but rest for brighter days.
Cycles Seasons moon and tide
Tell their secrets ancient wise
Change is but the chance to rise
Sunrise sunset cleaves one sky.
In winter now the bones the frame
The nakedness the grain
Barren twig now magic holds
Leaf, flower, fruit, and Autumn gold.
So no longer dread the cold
The barren, the bleak, and things seemed old
For beneath it all above below
Life lives and pulses will burst and grow.
Now come my love no longer sleep
Your journey calls no need to weep
Arise and come explore dive deep
Arise and come Earth’s Promise reap.

Labyrinths provide us with a path to practice change. Some labyrinths have withstood the passage of time for thousands of years. Others are here for just an afternoon, drawn in the sand at the edge of the ocean. Many modern labyrinths were meant to last for years, but because of unforeseen circumstances their time is shorter than intended. And they once again help us to practice letting go and giving thanks for the time they are with us. The Labyrinth of Life at the Sebastopol, California Teen Center reached such place of letting go and is at the end of one chapter and the beginning of another chapter that is yet unknown.

Sometimes... a labyrinth can take years to become a physical reality. In 2018 I met with my friend Deb, to discuss her desire to have a labyrinth on the beautiful land she lives on. Despite our plans and several meetings, listening to the land and finding the right spot, the labyrinth did not come to fruition. Fast-forward five years and in the blink of an eye... it happened!
