On Sunday, August 28th,
in the wee hours of the morning,
my sister slipped free from the multiple sclerosis
that had ravaged her body and mind
for the last three decades.
On Sunday, August 28th,
in the wee hours of the morning,
my sister slipped free from the multiple sclerosis
that had ravaged her body and mind
for the last three decades.
Mimí was an incredible artist,
known as Cement Girl
with her trowel and hammer logo,
she was one of the first to work with concrete as an art form,
making permanent installations
that can be found throughout Northern California
and in people's homes and gardens.
She loved salvaging junk into garden art
and finding beauty
in the rough and tumbled items of life.
Mimí loved to travel, for pleasure as an adult
and as a young woman on a soccer team,
bringing back memories
for us all to share...
and finding beauty
in the rough and tumbled items of life.

She also loved her dear friends and family,
and the animals that walked with her in life,
like sweet Olive, Maple and Tillie,
and she especially loved working with our father in the wine industry
after leaving her job in marketing
in the greater Los Angeles.
She will be missed by many,
and welcomed home by many more
who light the way,
embracing her courageous and difficult life
and her gentle and peaceful leaving,
with open arms
and hearts.

Labyrinths provide us with a path to practice change. Some labyrinths have withstood the passage of time for thousands of years. Others are here for just an afternoon, drawn in the sand at the edge of the ocean. Many modern labyrinths were meant to last for years, but because of unforeseen circumstances their time is shorter than intended. And they once again help us to practice letting go and giving thanks for the time they are with us. The Labyrinth of Life at the Sebastopol, California Teen Center reached such place of letting go and is at the end of one chapter and the beginning of another chapter that is yet unknown.
Sometimes... a labyrinth can take years to become a physical reality. In 2018 I met with my friend Deb, to discuss her desire to have a labyrinth on the beautiful land she lives on. Despite our plans and several meetings, listening to the land and finding the right spot, the labyrinth did not come to fruition. Fast-forward five years and in the blink of an eye... it happened!
